BUILT IN THE DARK
How Solitary Confinement Rewired My Mind And Excel Saved My Life

Built in the Dark is the story of what happens when catastrophic decisions collide with extreme isolation and force a man to rebuild from the inside out.

Christian Torres went from the NYPD to federal prison, where he spent 18 months in solitary confinement. In that darkness, stripped of identity, routine, and control, he began rebuilding the one thing he still had left: the way he thought.

Built in the Dark is not just a memoir. It is a gripping story about the cost of bad decisions, the power of mental reconstruction, and the discipline required to build a new future when everything familiar has been taken away.

Built in isolation.
Refined through consequence.
Applied to the decisions that matter most.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Christian Torres is the founder of Stark Analytics, a decision intelligence firm that helps executive teams stress-test major decisions before they commit capital. His path there was anything but conventional: a South Bronx kid with a scholarship to Rye Country Day School, an NYPD officer, and then a federal inmate for nearly a decade — including eighteen months in solitary confinement.
In a cell designed to break people, he started building instead. He audited his own thinking the way a forensic accountant audits a fraud, and what emerged became a framework for making decisions under pressure. He now teaches that system to leadership teams and audiences across the country. Built in the Dark is his first book.
